FirstService is listed on the Toronto and NASDAQ stock exchanges and generates more than US$1.7 billion in annualized revenues with more than 18,000 employees worldwide. The FirstService industry leading service platforms include: Colliers International and FirstService Real Estate Advisors, together the third largest global player in commercial real estate; FirstService Residential Management, the largest manager of residential communities in North America; and TFC, North America's largest provider of property services through franchise and contractor networks. Before establishing FirstService, Jay completed a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree at York University and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree at the University of Ottawa. He began his career as a corporate lawyer and partner with the law firm of Fogler, Rubinoff LLP in Toronto. Jay worked closely with Lloyd Fogler Q.C., the named partner of the firm and served some of Canada's leading entrepreneurs and business leaders. During the late 1980's, Jay sought to establish a company of his own. As a teenager, he showed his entrepreneurial spirit by founding Superior Pools, a company that provides lifeguards and other staffing for swimming pools and recreation facilities at apartments, condominiums, hotels and academic institutions. His investment in and leadership of Superior Pools created the foundation to fund his education and career as a lawyer. After raising money from family and friends, Jay established FirstService in 1989, with Superior Pools becoming the first service of the company. Superior is now part of American Pools, an $80 million dollar division of FirstService and the largest commercial swimming pool and recreation facility management operation in North America. In 1998, at the age of forty-one, Jay received Ontario's Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Consumer Services and Canada's coveted Entrepreneur of the Year award for creative service integration. In December 2001, Jay was named Canada's CEO of the year by Canadian Business Magazine. Together with his wife Barbara, Jay established The Jay and Barbara Hennick Foundation which contributes annually to a variety of causes primarily in the areas of education and medical research. Jay and Barbara Hennick also founded The Hennick Center for Business and Law, a joint program of the Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business at York University. The Hennick Centre is at the forefront of business and legal issues in Canada and is lead by former Chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission Chairman together with an advisory committee made up of some of Canada's leading academics and business leaders. Jay was also the founder and inspiration behind the combined Jay Hennick LL.B.-MBA Program at the University of Ottawa Law School. Jay is also a member of the Executive Committee and is the Treasurer of The Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. |
