Value Added Services - FirstService Energy

FirstService collectively manages 1.5 billion square feet of commercial and residential space across the globe. Due to the size of our operations, our potential to do the right thing for the planet is unmatched in our industry. FirstService has embarked on a new sustainability strategy and renewed commitment to engage and assist our clients in significantly reducing energy consumption, and in the process creating substantial energy savings.
We are pleased with our progress. Since launching this past year, FS Energy has provided our clients a combined $4 million savings - a solid start to achieving our goal of 25% reduction of energy consumption in our clients' properties.
FirstService Energy Launched in 2009, FS Energy is our innovative approach to creating an energy master plan for our portfolio of 350 multifamily properties in the New York and Tri-State market. FS Energy is a new, value-added service offering that takes a holistic view of energy management within our portfolio of properties. Using energy consumption data and different building topologies across our managed portfolio, FS Energy created an energy benchmark, or Energy Use Index ("EUI"), for multifamily properties. Unique in the market, the EUI enables us to compare and benchmark an individual property against a portfolio of similar properties - regardless of fuel source, differentiating amenities, age and size. This tool is a value-added service for our clients; it assists us in both educating them and advocating energy efficiency investments. The creation of this benchmark measurement launched FS Energy towards our 3-year goal of 25% reduction in energy consumption across a portfolio of 70,000 residential units. More than 100 buildings to date are engaged in a variety of programs including: preventative maintenance and training programs, demand management strategies, procurement strategies, energy assessments, and retrofits with demonstrated returns on investment. Each of these elements offer energy cost savings for our clients and reduces the environmental footprint of properties we manage.
